The Armenian Duduk by Ilya Efimov was developed to bring into the digital environment all the cultural and sonic richness of the duduk, a double‑reed instrument made of apricot wood, considered a heritage of Armenian music. The sound of the duduk is associated with deep feelings, melancholy, and spirituality, being widely used in film scores such as “Gladiator” and “The Last Temptation of Christ”.
This library was recorded with an experienced Armenian musician, ensuring authenticity in every note. The virtual instrument covers a range from E2 to B3, allowing exploration beyond the traditional scope without losing naturalness. Compatible with macOS and Windows, it works in Kontakt and offers an intuitive interface, with controls for dynamics, vibrato, and articulations that can be adjusted in real time.

More than a thousand samples were recorded in 24‑bit/44.1kHz, capturing nuances such as breathing, natural vibrato, and timbre variations. The performance engine includes three types of legato (normal, slow, and glissando), ensuring smooth transitions between notes and realistic musical phrases.
In addition, the plugin offers two types of release: the standard, based on breathing, and the “bird release”, a typical ornamentation used by Armenian musicians. This attention to detail provides greater expressiveness, allowing each phrase to sound authentic and culturally faithful. The round‑robin system in staccatos adds natural variation, avoiding mechanical repetition.

Compatible with Kontakt, the Armenian Duduk is lightweight and efficient, occupying about 656 MB in compressed NCW format.
